STATE-OF-THE-ART IMAGE CLASSIFICATION ALGORITHM
Recycling is hard, so our app features an advanced object detection algorithm to make it easy. In the app, you can use your camera to classify a waste piece in a matter of milliseconds. Once classified, you will received waste management guidelines directly from your local area.
PROGRESS-TRACKING AND REMINDERS
To keep you involved, RecycleScan has weekly challenges and badges that you can win by scanning and tracking objects. You can even view how much Co2 you've saved via your recycling efforts! Soon, you will be able share your progress with friends and family to keep each other motivated and on-track.
EDUCATIONAL CONTENT, USER SUPPORT, AND MORE
Waste is confusing. What plastic is recyclable and what isn't? What the heck should I do with batters? Computers? The RecycleScan app features educational content on various types of waste and delivers guidelines to you when you scan an item. No more confusion!
SECURITY AND PRIVACY
The images you take never leave your device, so don't worry about sensitive data making it into the wrong hands. Also, authentication is provided entirely by third parties (FaceBook and Google), so your password will be stored securely. All of our backend is hosted through Amazon Cloud Services.
RecycleScan is an app created by The Plastic Project. The Plastic Project is a student led project started near Seattle, Washington. We aim to tackle pollution and promote an eco-friendly lifestyle by equipping communities with resources using technology like the RecycleScan app. We wanted to create a user- and data-driven solution that would empower users to live more sustainability and leverage the power of emerging AI technologies.
We are working alongside neighborhood associations, schools, partner organizations, city officials, and others to spread our solution across our community and the larger global community. We hope to get more people recycling regularly so we can minimize pollution and landfill usage and start the transition towards a greener world.
